Thanks for the input folks! So it turns out that the males are exhuasting the females in the tank. So now I have to watch the females and put them into the breeding container when they are knocked up and keep them in there for awhile.
So I guess males of any species are all the same!

Ha ha ha ha ha!! That is tooooo funny.
Thanks for your thoughts on flights and the cost of living up here. Over the last week I heard some great things about Kugluktut as our school principal had an opportunity to meet some students from the community at a conference in Cambridge Bay. It sounds like a very nice place indeed. Sounds like you need some oscars or piranhas to help you get rid of all those guppy babies.
All the best
silly question but how would you know the females are knocked up? they bloat?
Great post......I'm impressed you can get fish up to Kugluktuk safely without any mishaps. I had plenty of troubles just keeping them alive when I was in university........but Windsor does have interesting water. Hope you get your problem solved though.
Aida- I called a store in Yellowknife to ask more about the guppies. The woman there said that the female guppies get a black spot near their anal fin when they are about to pop! And I am able to notice a size difference in their tummies as well. But now I just need to pay closer attention to the female fish so I don't lose them all!
Hey, it takes two to tango; even in a fish tank. LOL
